Jesus Christ is portrayed as both a Lion – symbolizing his authority and power – and a Lamb – symbolizing his sacrificial submission to God’s will. One of the elders calls John to look at the Lion, but when he looks, he sees a Lamb. Christ the Lamb was the perfect sacrifice for the sins of all; therefore, only he can save us from the terrible events revealed by the scroll. Christ the Lamb won the greatest battle of all. He defeated the forces of evil by dying on the cross. The role of Christ the Lion will be to lead the battle where Satan is finally defeated. Christ the Lion is victorious because of what Christ the Lamb has already done. We will participate in his victory, not because of our efforts or goodness, but because he has promised eternal life to all who believe in him.

From every nation people are praising God before his throne. God’s message of salvation and eternal life is not limited to a specific culture, race, or country. Anyone who comes to God in repentance and faith is accepted by him and will be part of his Kingdom.

The Jewish leaders had rejected their King. They refused God’s offer of salvation in Jesus Christ. God did not turn away from the Jewish people who obeyed him, and he continues to offer salvation to the people he loves, both Jews and Gentiles. Eternal life is within our reach; accept it while the opportunity is still offered.

In 66 A.D., the Jews revolted against Roman control. Roman soldiers attacked Jerusalem and broke through the northern wall. In 70 A.D. they entered the city and burnt it. It is believed about six hundred thousand Jews were killed during the onslaught.

is hidden from your eyes.” Let us not allow our flesh to lead us to that place where the presence of the Lord dwells no more! Let us not allow prejudice or bias to keep us from sharing Christ with others. Christ welcomes all people into his Kingdom.
