In today’s first reading, the Book of Revelation speaks of a scroll and a command to consume it. The scroll contains the Word of God. The Word brings sweetness in the mouth and bitterness in the stomach.

When we read the Word of God, it transforms us from our sinful nature to carry the attitude of our Lord Jesus. Our internal transformation causes us to share the goodness of God with the world. The sweetness of the Word of God is the conversation and the transformation within us. Our depths are soaked in the love of God and the fire of the Holy Spirit. It causes us to speak the goodness of God.

Therefore, anyone who has experienced the love of God through the living Word will not be able to stop evangelizing. This is why the Lord Jesus said, “My food is to do the will of Him who sent me.” (John 4:34) Is it the same with us too?

In today’s Gospel proclamation we see the Lord Jesus’ reaction at the temple. He enters the temple area and drives out those who are selling things there. He takes possession of the temple and reveals His ability to do God’s will.

When the Lord Jesus is in the temple, the temple becomes a sanctuary to host Him. “Do you not know that your bodies are the temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own” (1 Corinthians 6:19).

We welcome the Lord Jesus into our hearts whenever we receive the Holy Eucharist. The Creator of Heaven and Earth, the Lord Almighty dwells in us. Do we respect His presence in our Body, Soul and Spirit?

The Lord Jesus invites us and gives us hope. He is our role model. We need to have a desire to be like Him. Are we ready to dedicate ourselves to Him? Can we prioritize His will over our wants, dreams and wishes?

Prayer: Abba Father, as I read your Word, let me hear your voice. Strengthen me to build my life on your Word. Amen.
