Today’s readings highlight the beautiful relation- ship the Lord Jesus had with the Heavenly Father. From our youngest days we were trained to love God. But most of the time, this love fades because of an obligation or a guilt.

At the bottom of it all, is a certain sense of fear- that somehow God is this distant angry person and the only way to calm Him would be to pray to Him. Most of the time we equal Him to someone who awaits offerings and will snatch anyone who fails to do so. The consequence of this is a loss of a deep and intimate connection, relationship and love that He so longs to give us.

The Old Testament speaks of God as a single person, but now the Lord Jesus shows us a new face of God. He is Father and He has sent His Son to complete His work.
The relationship that the Lord Jesus has with His Heavenly Father is so intimate that He is able to say, “the Son cannot do anything on His own, but only what He sees the Father doing; for what He does, the Son will do also.” (John 5:19)

Throughout the reading, He makes it clear that all He does is be- cause the Father has shown Him what to do. His love for His Father enabled Him to have absolute trust in His ways. That is how He is able to heal and forgive even those who are about to persecute Him. In all that God does, He wants to give us life, and the greatest of His work is the Resurrection. This ‘rising from the dead’ does not mean ‘to return to life’ but to begin a new transformed life. When we accept the Word of God in faith it gives us life, takes root in us and transforms us. Together, the Father and the Son raise us to a new life and God’s love reaches us, through the voice of the Lord Jesus.

Prayer: Abba Father, may we have an intimate relationship with You, and seek You so that Your will may be revealed to us through Your Son. Amen
