Friday August 13
“Give thanks to the Lord… for his steadfast love endures forever.”
  • Joshua 24: 1-13
  • Psalm 136:1-3, 16-24
  • Matthew 19: 3-12

Today’s first reading speaks a lot about the history. History is vital not because it validates one’s ability to remember facts, but because it gives us perception for the present. As Joshua begins his final charge to the entire nation, he begins with an evaluation lesson. He begins with God’s hand from the modest beginnings of the nation, and takes them through the years of history. Joshua was witness to many of the happenings of which he spoke.

When we recall what God has done in the past, it generates a solid foundation for our perception about the events of the present. Because God is God and He has all the power needed to act and all the goodness to do what’s best for us, we can always have confidence. Not because we know what would happen, but because we know, He’s doing what is best.

Prayer: Abba Father, I thank you for the many people in my life. People who loved me, who broke me and even people who forgave me. Amen
