Today we celebrate the feast of St. Matthias, who humbled himself and followed Jesus from His baptism all the way to His death and resurrection. He continued his journey with all the believers even after the Lord’s ascension into heaven. He was unseen and unheard of until the disciples began looking for someone to replace Judas as the twelfth disciple. The bible does not say anything about Matthias’ character; but we can infer he would have been someone who greatly loved the Lord. He would have been transformed by witnessing the great miracles the Lord Jesus performed. Explaining the parable of the Sower, Jesus says in Matthew 13:23, “The seed falling on good soil refers to someone who hears the word and understands it. This is the one who produces a crop, yielding a hundred, sixty or thirty times what was sown.” Matthias would have been a follower such as this. He heard the Word and saw the miracles and it penetrated deep within him. He journeyed with the Lord in secret and was rewarded for His faithfulness.

Prayer: Abba Father, I pray for the grace to be able to journey with you throughout my life, unseen to the world, but known by you. Amen.
