When they sow the wind, they will reap the whirlwind
  • Hosea 8: 4-7,11-13
  • Psalm 115:3-10
  • Matthew 9:32-38

The fact that there is a bountiful harvest but few workers, is nothing new. The Lord Jesus knew it 2000 plus years ago, and He gave the solution, to ask the Lord of the harvest, and none else. Have we missed this straightforward advice? We tend to analyse and even recruit “non-workers”. The Lord Jesus did not bother about those who paid lip-service to God, but misinterpreted His work as from the devil. He passed them by, and chose common people who glorified God, witnessing His miracles. Let us remember that the harvest field – our area of service – belongs to God and not us or anyone else. Our intimacy with the Lord is of utmost importance in our serving. Let us ask the owner without striving by our self-effort. Otherwise the words of the prophet Hosea will apply to us, “when they sow the wind, they will reap the whirlwind. producing headless stalks of grain, and even the little grain that we might reap, being swallowed by ‘foreigners’.” Let us serve Him as He wishes to be served.

Prayer: Abba Father, help us to be teachable, knowing that You are our help and shield. Amen.
