Who am I? Am I a disciple or a devotee of Jesus? This is the indirect question in today’s Gospel proclamation. A disciple is one who is totally committed- ted to the Master’s words and deeds. Once he or she is aligned with the word of God, they are closely connected to the Master. How often am I connected to my Master? How often are my words and deeds in compliance with my Master?
Or am I living according to my own whims and fancies? The prime focus of a disciple is only to do what was taught by the Master. Let us ask ourselves, am I able to follow what I was taught by Jesus? Am I able to call myself as a sister or brother of Jesus? If so, I am a disciple. If I cannot do so, I do not have to worry, because Jesus is at the doorstep eagerly calling me to be his disciple from now on. All we have to do is to follow the footsteps of our Master and Saviour. Of course, at times we may fail. But no matter how many times we fall, we can get up and follow the Master in true discipleship.
