Today’s readings teach us that our relationship with God should reflect in our actions. The old testament sets out the law of the Lord; the law that the people of Israel followed encouraged them to love their neighbors; it was this law that made them stand out among other nations as the chosen people of God. Jesus accomplishes this law to the fullest in the New Testament by sacrificing his life on the cross for the salvation of humanity. It was an act of unconditional love and mercy. This raised the standards of the law to greater heights. The season of lent reminds us that God loved us first despite of our unworthiness. Therefore, we are called to open our hearts and minds to his love, that the Holy Spirit may lead and guide us to share his love by our acts of mercy, compassion and charity towards our neighbors. As promised in the Gospel proclamation, true witnesses for Christ are those who testify not only by words but also in action. They will enjoy their inheritance of eternal life.
