Being led by the Lord’s voice is a gift unlike any other. However, listening to his voice could be a struggle. In Moses’ encounter with God, we see that God does not speak until Moses had given him his attention. What we must realise is that God pursues us and makes endless efforts to draw our attention, whether it be through the words of a friend or a scripture verse.
The struggle to hear his voice, is our own doing. For he is always speaking and always revealing, but we are not always looking nor listening. Unless we are attentive, we will walk right past the burning bushes he sets aflame to catch our gaze. In today’s Gospel proclamation, Jesus declares that God reveals the hidden things to the childlike. Often, we are childish, but not childlike: distracted, stubborn and immature, and not curious, nor pursuant for the ways of God. Childishness will make us run away from a supernaturally burning bush, while childlikeness will make us run to it, eager to learn, and excited to be transformed. Let us enter his presence and listen to him.
Prayer: Abba Father, open my eyes and awaken my soul to recognise your voice. Amen.
