Today is one of the three birthdays we celebrate in the liturgical year, the others being the birthdays of Jesus and of John the Baptist. Mother Mary played a unique and vital role in the plan of salvation. She was instrumental in the Lord’s hand like no other human person, for she was chosen and set apart for this purpose to be the Mother of God. Mother Mary was conceived and born immaculate and was full of grace. Her parents would have been overjoyed at the birth of their daughter. The couple would have wondered what she would turn out to be. The entire creation was groaning until the Saviour was born.
The whole world was waiting for the redeemer. The maker of the universe, the God of creation was able to bring out this plan of salvation into action through the obedience of Mary our Mother. Thus her entire will was surrendered to God in obedience. It may have been difficult, painful and uneasy sometimes. Yet, she had the courage, faith and obedience to say yes to God’s call. May we also respond to God’s call.
Prayer: Abba Father, give us the same grace as Mother Mary to be surrendered to your will. Amen.
