God speaks to us far more than we realise. He wants to communicate with us directly and frequently. But we often harden our hearts through fear, unbelief, and pre-occupation with the issues of daily life. In today’s Gospel Proclamation, Jesus laments that people reject the Good News despite all he does for them. The prophet Baruch prays in the First Reading about the disobedience of the exiles who did not listen to God’s voice but followed the beliefs and desires of their own hearts, despite having been delivered out of slavery. In our own lives we can be quick to forget the good that God has done for us, when he has delivered us from our own misfortunes. By rejecting his word, we are rejecting him. We need to truly repent of our sinfulness and return to God. We should sit at the feet of the Lord in prayer, reading and listening to his word, so that we will hear from him. As believers, we are called to share the Gospel with others. If we choose to live our lives accord- ing to his word, we can declare the truth in love, and minister to the lost.
