Jesus did not come into the world to give bread but to be bread. “I am the bread of life, he who comes to me will not hunger…he who believes in me will never go thirsty.” Our Lord would have us know that he is the food of our souls. We consider that the soul is starving and famishing through sin. Christ is given by the Father, to satisfy our spiritual needs and to be the Physician of our souls. In him and his atoning death, in him and his priesthood, in him and his grace, in his love and power alone will our souls find their needs supplied. In him there is life. He is the bread of life. Bread is consumed as a staple food in many Middle Eastern cultures, hence the Lord’s intention to present himself as the one who can satisfy our hunger. Christ sacrificed himself, so that we would not be hungry. He is the Saviour that meets the needs of everyone. Every day we need Jesus, we need his blood, his righteousness, his intercession and his grace. Well is he called “The Bread of Life”.
PRAYER: Abba Father, may you always remain in us, see us for who we are and sustain us with “The Bread of Life”. Amen.
