As children we were blessed to be educated in Christian values. As I read the Gospel proclamation I bring to mind with deep gratitude the religious sisters who fashioned and moulded us to love our faith. As rebellious children we may not have appreciated their shepherding at that time but in hindsight, everything Christ-centric we learned makes perfect sense now. The first shepherding we received was the practice of the traditions of the church including prayer, confession and Holy Mass. All these rituals at that time stood in good stead as we grew to return back to a deeper spiritual life with a genuine love for all the traditions. Today we celebrate the memorial of St. Joseph the worker. I have a deep devotion and love for St. Joseph and numerous are his great intercessions for solutions in life with seemingly impossible situations. Known as an ‘Unsung hero’, we can learn another form of shepherding from St. Joseph: working silently behind the scenes.
