“He must increase, I must decrease”
  • Isaiah 49:1-6
  • Psalm 139:1-3,13-15
  • Acts 13:22-26
  • Luke 1:57-66,80

Today we celebrate the nativity of John the Baptist. At the moment of the fall of humanity, God promised his Messiah and the final sign of that promise is the birth of John the Baptist; the one who paved the way for the Messiah to be born according to the salvific plan of God. God knew John before he was born. Similarly God knew us before we were born. The Psalmist portrays the omniscience of God. There is one thing that consoles us in this troubled world; that God knows us by name. He knew us even before we were born and he knows our last days too. The second reading confirms to us that God is faithful to his promises. He walks his talk. God did it in the past and he still walks his talk. We could trust him. The Gospel proclamation confirms that, what God says would never change. The world would try to change us according to the worldly standards but God would not allow such changes. What God desires takes place and we need to trust him and relax.

PRAYER: Abba Father, I know that you know me. Help me to trust you. Amen.
