Today’s Gospel reading highlights a spiritual principle: the necessity of childlike qualities to enter the Kingdom of heaven. This teaching highlights the importance of humility, trust and dependence on God, akin to how a child relies on their parents. The word “children” is deliberate and carries deep significance. It is not about being young but having attributes that are essential for spiritual maturity and readiness to receive God’s kingdom. The paradox is that one must become like a child to mature spiritually. Children are characterized by their dependence on their caregivers. This dependence is based on trust and confidence. They believe that their parents will provide for them, protect them and guide them. We are called to trust and rely on God, to have faith in his providence, care and guidance. A radical shift in perspective: to rely not on worldly providence but on divine providence. This faith is not passive; it is an active trust that God cares for us as our Abba Father.
PRAYER: Abba Father, transform me to have a childlike heart. Draw me closer to your kingdom. Amen.
