Walking daily with the Lord
  • Joshua 24:1-2,15-18
  • Psalm 34:2-3,16-21
  • Ephesians 5:21-32
  • John 6:60-69

Today’s readings beautifully intertwine, conveying a powerful message for our daily lives. The focal point is our proclamation of Christ Jesus as our Lord and Savior. Each day brings forth diverse emotions, situations, trials, and challenges, urging us to consistently seek God and align ourselves with his will.

While attending the Sunday Holy Mass is the highlight of our week, it is crucial to carry the Lord’s presence throughout the week. We could do this by reading the Word of God and spending time in personal prayer.

The first reading prompts us, like the Israelites, to reflect on the blessings of the Lord and to steadfastly hold onto him amid worldly challenges. Our faith should remain unwavering, but if we falter, God’s mercy allows us to return to him, as illustrated in the parable of the Prodigal Son.

Thus, the first reading shows the need for continuous praise and worship, especially during difficult times, acknowledging God’s works throughout human history.

As we consistently seek him, the responsibilities assigned to us and our relationships become offerings received directly from the Lord. People and connections cease to be burdens; instead, we serve with love and care.

Proclaiming the Lordship of Christ Jesus in our lives, as promised, invites the Holy Spirit to guide us through daily trials according to the Lord’s will. This serves as a daily reminder for us of our divine sonship/daughterhood.

The second reading reminded me of a message of Pope Francis given to engaged couples, in which he highlights the transformative journey from the enchantment of “falling in love” to the depth of “mature love.” He emphasizes the choice, made in complete freedom, to take responsibility for life’s unfolding, drawing parallels with Joseph’s acceptance of Mary as his wife.

The Pope encourages couples to exemplify a love that evolves and matures daily, transcending initial enchantment. Stressing the importance of reconciliation, he advises never letting a day end without making peace with one’s spouse, offering valuable wisdom for building enduring relationships grounded in faith.

As we journey, let us resolve to examine ourselves at the end of each day and align our thoughts with the Lord.

PRAYER: Abba Father, give us the strength to seek you every day and the courage to turn to you when we stumble. Amen.
