How would we react if someone accused us of hypocrisy like Jesus accused the Pharisees? We have a “pharisee” within us, and this is even celebrated in our social-media driven culture. We desire to be held in esteem and appreciated. We try to hide the vulnerable, fearful, immature side. We do not want people to see this side of ourselves. We want to look happy, successful, fulfilled and satisfied. But there is a disconnect between the outside and the inside, that tears us apart. The opposites of hypocrisy are authenticity, sincerity, honesty, and integrity; it is living a life that flows from inner truths and convictions. Jesus longs for us to be authentic, for in it lays true freedom and happiness. How do we go from hypocrisy to authenticity? “Blessed are you who fear the Lord, who walk in his ways!” To be a Christian means to seek a relationship with God. Let us allow God’s grace to penetrate our hearts and minds so that we will be transformed by him.
PRAYER: Abba Father, I bring to you the truth of my fallen nature and surrender it at your feet. Transform me from within. Amen.
