The Gospel of Luke focuses on the compassionate, loving and tender nature of Jesus and emphasises that Jesus came to this world for all people. Jesus returned to his hometown filled with the Holy Spirit and entered the synagogue for the Sabbath service. He was welcomed, appreciated and respected as a teacher and people listened to him attentively. The scroll that was chosen was
his mission statement specifying the purpose of his coming to the world. His heart was burdened when seeing the blindness and brokenness which made their lives miserable. The Psalmist speaks of the joy of living in obedience to God. This becomes the key to freedom and joy. The good news Jesus spoke was not taken lovingly. Anyone can come to Jesus and a good example is the criminal who hung on a cross next to Jesus. The moment we accept Jesus as the Saviour, a shift takes place leading to a life transforming experience. This will be a tower of strength as we face the challenges of life.
PRAYER: Abba Father, help us to focus our eyes only on you and keep us away from evil. Amen.
