Memorial of Saint Ignatius of Antioch, Bishop and Martyr
God is a loving Father
  • Ephesians 1:1-10
  • Psalm 98:1-6
  • Luke 11:47-54

A conflict arises between Jesus and the religious authorities. Jesus criticizes the experts of the Jewish law for taking away the key of knowledge. He rebukes them harshly for their hypocrisy. Jesus detests their strict legalistic requirements which were far removed from authentic worship. These experts of the law failed to come to know God personally and they prevented others from coming to know God. Jesus reveals God more fully as our Abba Father. In rejecting Jesus, the Jewish experts of the law were taking away the key of knowledge from others. We will always be learners when it comes to God. The mistake we often make is to think ourselves as clever when it comes to knowing God. On the contrary we are like infants, always having much to learn. If we recognize that, we will come to know God more fully. That is why Jesus said, “I thank you, Father…because you have hidden these things from the learned and the clever and have revealed them to the childlike” (Lk 10:21)

PRAYER: Abba Father, help me to know you more fully. Amen.
