Forgiveness and Restoration
  • Philemon 7-20
  • Psalm 146:7-10
  • Luke 17:20-25

St. Paul appeals to Philemon on behalf of Onesimus, urging him to receive his former slave not as a slave but as a beloved brother. This passage highlights the transformative power of forgiveness, reconciliation and restoration within the Christian community. St. Paul encourages Philemon to extend grace and love, reflecting the heart of Christ in restoring broken relationships. Similarly, in today’s Gospel reading, Jesus addresses the Pharisees’ misguided expectations of the kingdom of God. He emphasizes that the kingdom is not something that can be observed with outward signs, but rather it is among them, manifested through acts of love, forgiveness and reconciliation. These readings call us to adopt a kingdom perspective, where forgiveness, reconciliation and restoration are central. It needs to be seen in our daily lives. They challenge us to transcend societal norms and expectations, extending grace and love to all, just as Christ has done for us.

PRAYER: Abba Father, help us to embrace the transformative power of forgiveness and reconciliation. Amen.
