Know your Authority
  • Hebrews 2: 5-12
  • Psalm 8:2,5-9
  • Mark 1:21-28

When Jesus was teaching in the synagogue his authority was evident to the people. Jesus ordered the evil spirit, which was possessing a man to come out and to be quiet. Jesus came and lived on earth as true man and true God. At his Baptism in the river Jordan, Jesus heard the Father’s voice: “You are my beloved Son; with you I am well pleased” (Mark 1:11). Jesus lived in that identity, as the Son of the Almighty God. He knew his authority as the Son of God and he used it. Do we know our identity and do we live in that identity? Or do we live in the identity the world has given us? At Baptism we too became sons and daughters of God. We are sons and daughters of the
almighty God through the passion, death and resurrection of Jesus. In today’s first reading the author of the letter to the Hebrews, says that Jesus is not ashamed to call us his brothers and sisters. Today let us hold on to that identity and fulfill our mission on earth.

PRAYER: Abba Father, may we claim our identity as your sons and daughters. Amen.
