When we make a promise, the other person should see us as trustworthy. When we look at our Lord and read the promises he has made to us in his Word, do we believe in him and his word? Are we people of faith? In today’s first reading, it says “the word that they heard did not profit them, for they were not united in faith with those who listened.” If we are people of faith we will have obedience as a sign of having that faith. Hebrews 11:6 says “Without faith it is impossible to please God”. Without obedience to God’s will, we would not be able to please God. Entering God’s rest is a promise. God wants us to enter into his rest. Where God is present, there is rest. He is calling us to come to him. Let us make every effort therefore to rest on and honour the sabbath day – the Lord’s day. To enter the rest that God promises, let us rest from things that take our attention away from him and focus on enjoying our communion with him.
PRAYER: Abba Father, let your promises find its home in us, as we walk in obedience to your will. Amen.
