Prayer is an intimate communication with God
  • Sirach 1: 1-10
  • Psalm 93: 1-2, 5
  • Mark 9: 14-29

Today’s first reading speaks of the mystery of wisdom. It speaks of true wisdom, which is God’s revelation of himself. Though hidden and inaccessible, it is available to those who seek intimacy with him. In today’s Gospel reading we see Jesus the Incarnate Wisdom, entering a situation filled with strife. A desperate father in search of healing for his son, throws himself at the feet of Jesus professing the truth of his heart, “I believe; help my unbelief”. One word of command from the Lord and the boy is set free. The disciples ask the Lord the reason for their prior failure and he replies “This kind can come out only by prayer”. Prayer is an intimate conversation with God. The building block of any relationship is communication. We were made to talk and to listen to him. It is only through this intimate dialogue that we learn our true identity, as sons/daughters of the most high God and we are given the gift of faith to collaborate with God to share the message of his Kingdom.

PRAYER: Abba Father, I long for a deeper connection with you, I long to know the secrets of your heart. Speak, Lord, your servant is listening. Amen.
