Jesus bore our Infirmities
  • Isaiah 52:13—53:12
  • Psalm 31:2,6,12-13,15-17,25
  • Hebrews 4:14-16; 5:7-9
  • John 18:1—19:42

Jesus walked his lonely walk to be crucified at Calvary. As he balanced the cross on his shoulders it seems like it was a balancing act between our past and future. To the human eye it seemed like another ordinary day where it was common practice for men to be humiliated, tortured, and hung on crosses to instill fear in the populace. So it seemed that just another street preacher was being given his due punishment for his opposition to the supremacy of Caesar and the law of the land. But the reality was greater. Jesus, with majestic grace, humility, silence and resignation was taking on the sin of the entire world. Every time the sacrifice of the Mass is being offered, are we concerned with going back home on time and fulfilling the errands of the day? Are we able to unite with Jesus in his eternal sacrifice? Are we able to utter words of thanksgiving as he is pierced for our transgressions, crushed for our infirmities, marred with brutality and held in no esteem? Let us walk with him in love.

PRAYER: Abba Father, so often my heart is cold to the passion of my Lord. Give me a new heart that beats with love for you. Amen.
