In the stillness and the silence of Holy Saturday I am reminded of the Lord’s prayer for his disciples: “My prayer is not that you would take them out of this world, but that you protect them from the evil one” (John 17:15). The world is where the disciples were to do their mission. And it is so with us. We are not of this world yet called to be in this world for Christ. In doing so, we may face many discomforts, hardships and wickedness. But as we depend on God, and wait in that Sacred Space, we find our strength and his divine protection. It is in this Sacred Space, the place between the Cross and Resurrection, the place where the world seems to have lost us, where human options come to naught, that we rediscover God. He is there in the dark night, in the stillness, where he seems absent in our darkness. God is faithful as he was there for Jesus, he will be there for us. Christ was glorified. In this Sacred Space, in our “Yes” and surrender to his will, his Spirit guides us to our greater purpose.
PRAYER: Abba Father, prepare our hearts for heaven. Strengthen our faith in moments of doubt and weakness. Amen.
