Often we interpret the love of God and our relationship with him through our human relationships. A loving earthly father makes it easy for us to envisage a loving Heavenly Father. In today’s first reading from Isaiah we are asked to rejoice for Jerusalem, a city which has suffered much plunder and war and is likened to the tenderness of a mother. God assures the inhabitants that he will send peace and love to her like never before. How do we experience that peace and love? It is in humble acceptance and not in our assumptions. The Gospel proclamation teaches us the virtue of being humble like children because that practice makes us the greatest in the kingdom of God. St. Therese was such a gentle little soul, who went through much pain and suffering till at one moment she encountered the love of Christ which filled her with great joy and hope. No more was she a sad, depressed crying child but a soul burning with love for Jesus. Let us become like her filled with the love and presence of God.
Prayer: Abba Father, we pray for the grace to give up our ways of thinking and understanding and become as little children in your kingdom. Amen.
