We are aware of the uncertainty of our life on earth. The complexity of the design of our bodies have led to various research to find new ways to ensure we live longer and ultimately to push the limits of our life span. Our criterion of success seems short-sighted. By extending our life by two more years on earth what do we hope to gain? When will our greed end? We should acclaim medical and scientific advancements while not forgetting our primary calling. Through today’s Gospel proclamation we are reminded that faith can give us a life of eternal joy instead of adding few finite number of years to our life span. It is by God’s grace that we are saved. It is a gift that is given to us when we become sons or daughters of God through his beloved Son. We are sometimes worried about our material possessions and we focus on protecting the riches we have gathered on earth. Instead, let us focus on storing more heavenly riches that endure for eternity. There we will have infinite joy with God.
Prayer: Abba Father, thank you for forgiving us through your Son and saving us by your grace. Amen.
