Today’s first reading speaks of the struggle that goes on within us. While seeking God and desiring to please God our flesh/sinful nature tends to overpower our willingness to do good. The rule of the kingdom of God is clear. Only when we open our arms to embrace the needy, care for the sick and go to make a difference in another person’s life, the doors of heaven will open for us. Scripture says “then the light will dawn on you”. In other words areas in our lives that need breakthroughs will be answered. An unfailing promise given is that he will answer us the moment we call for help. But the first step is for us to acknowledge that we are sinners. St Paul who received direct insights from God says he was a great sinner but the mercy of God saved him. The saving power of Jesus breaks the chains of selfishness and evil nature within us. When we focus on Jesus on the cross, the Holy Spirit will transform us into the holiness of Jesus.
PRAYER: Abba Father, we are caught up in our selfish nature which draws us away from you, keep us close to your heart. Amen.
