Christ’s Cross, the Power of God
  • 1 Corinthians 1:17-25
  • Psalm 33:1-2,4-5,10-11
  • Matthew 25:1-13

St. Paul proclaims that the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are not of God but to those who are being saved it is the ‘Power of God. Crucifix- ion and public executions were seen as punishments for criminals and hence were objects of humiliation. And so the Cross was ridiculed by non-believers and some believers too. Yet St. Paul confidently reminds us that there can be no Christianity without the message of the Cross. Because Christ who was crucified on that cross rose again in glory as our sovereign King: the King of kings and the Lord of lords. Today, we too have an opportunity and a responsibility to proclaim this life transforming message of the Cross: the Good News of the crucified and risen Christ. Because even to this day, many only see Jesus Christ as a great man who healed the sick and raised the dead, a good teacher who taught well or a great prophet, thereby missing out on the essence of God’s power hidden in that wooden cross.

PRAYER: Abba Father, help me to access your power through faith and trust. May the blood of Jesus renew me every day. Amen.
