Confidence and Assurance through our Identity in Christ
  • Jeremiah 20:10-13
  • Psalm 18:2-7
  • John 10:31-42

Many of us have faced rejection in various forms from peers, social circles, friends, or even family. Are we facing or have we experienced feelings of deep hurt caused by others for no apparent reason? We may have experienced some form of slander, rejection, hatred or deceit that may bring forth anger or despair. Today’s readings have a common thread in the responses of Jeremiah, and Jesus in the face of slander or life threatening situations or rejection from society. Jeremiah declares his trust in God in moments of despair. When faced with allegations, Jesus replies of his identity in the Father that brings forth miracles rather than deny his divinity, which they termed as blasphemy. Where did such confidence come from? I am encouraged to turn to my Master as I face rejection and slander. As a child of God, he is with me and so my persecutors will not prevail. Jesus is my helper and he will defend me as I choose his love and surrender all to him.

PRAYER: Abba Father, we surrender our hurts and rejections to you and those who caused these hurts as well. We place our hope in you. Amen.
