Today we encounter two fearless people, both up against the odds and seemingly weaker than their opponents, but victorious. There was Judas and his 3000 ill equipped soldiers against the military might of Gorgias’ extensive fortifications and Calvary. And there was Jesus, a lone ranger against the religious leaders and merchants of the Temple. Judas’ cry is worth recalling,’ “Do not fear the number of the enemy or be afraid of their attack… cry out to God, for if he so wishes he will remember his covenant and destroy that army before us in this very day. And all the nations will know that someone saves and liberates Israel. Similarly Jesus was unafraid as he overturned the tables of the merchants and cried out,’ My house shall be called a house of prayer for all nations…but you have turned it into a den of robbers. We focus of the fearlessness of our Lord and can be convinced that when we have to fight such battles, He is and will be at our sides, edging us on and encouraging us to be fearless.
Prayer: Abba Father, I chose to surrender my fears at the feet of Jesus and take up the His cause of justice as he encourages me to be fearless. Amen
