Today’s Gospel proclamation reveals St Peter’s greatest declaration. When our Lord Jesus asks his disciples “Who do people say I am?” The response of St. Peter was that our Lord Jesus was the true Messiah the Son of the living God. He revealed the truth about our Lord Jesus Christ because God the Father revealed it to him. Such was St. Peter’s faith and love for the Lord that he was chosen to be the foundation on which the church was built. But in the same passage we see the Lord rebuking St. Peter.
As much as he loved the Lord, St. Peter thought in the way of the world. He wanted to hold on to what he thought was the best plan of God. He failed to see that God had bigger and mightier plans. Many of us are also like St Peter. We love the Lord, we have faith and we earnestly strive to walk on this journey with the Lord. But we often refuse to see the bigger plans God has for us. We hold on to what we know is real and what we think is right. Trust in the Lord for his plans are bigger and better than our own little understanding.
Prayer: Abba Father, help me to surrender to you.
