In the healing of Peter’s mother-in-law, the Lord Jesus does not speak or command or do any such actions as he usually did, instead the scriptures say that the Lord Jesus took her by the hand and helped her up and the fever left. How powerful was the presence of the Lord Jesus for such quick and complete healing. Was there a secret to that healing power of the Lord Jesus? I believe so. What strikes me most in today’s Gospel proclamation is the importance Jesus gives to prayer and solitude: connection with God the Father. The Lord Jesus rose up early morning to pray in solitude. Didn’t the Lord Jesus say that we would do greater miracles than he? Does it happen that way today? Could the reason be our lack of deep connection with the Lord in prayer? We read that the Lord Jesus healed every person brought to him that day! Let us worship in spirit and in truth and fulfil God’s calling by preaching the good news, healing the sick and raising the dead. Let us exercise our ministry in the power of the Holy Spirit.
Prayer: Abba Father, open my spiritual eyes and fill me with your compassion to heal and restore your people. Amen.
