Wickedness has seeped into human hearts. I realized that I could not love and coexist with family. Even marriage became strained, unable to be coped with. God’s original plan for man and woman to become one flesh takes a beating: adultery, divorce and other issues spring up. God knowing our predicament comes to our aid. “A new heart I will give you, and a new spirit I will put within you; and I will remove from your body the heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh.” Marriage certificates and family platforms are where we learn the art of loving. It is a process, not a state, a beginning, not an end. It is a learner’s permit, not a diploma. So let us not give up when we struggle or fail occasionally. Let us draw divine grace from the Paschal Mystery. The Lord died and rose to give a new heart and mind to sinful humanity. Pattern of dying to rise to new life. May we too die daily that our spouse and family members may rise and live.
