As the new year dawns, my son is preparing to go to university. He faces decisions that lead to different paths of life. My heart has a wish list; that he would remember who he is, the values he grew up with, so that he may navigate his adult journey safely. On the cusp of a new year, we see wars, political and financial chaos, modern ideologies and a plethora of voices preaching a prosperity gospel. The Word steadies us with a gentle caution, one similar to this mother’s wish for her son. We are asked to look back to the beginning, to know who we are; a people created according to God’s plan, with the light of God within us so we may live with him for all eternity. He has come, cleaned up our messes, paved our path back to him and made known his divine truth to hold onto through his Holy Spirit. As we struggle to navigate and look for the right way forward, hear him whisper “You know the truth. Listen to the truth of the Spirit”.
