We see God reaffirming His promises to the people of Israel through Prophet Haggai in the first reading. The greatest promise of God – the promised salvation through a Saviour is now recognized by the Jewish people in the Gospel. Through the Gospels we understand that Jesus never expected affirmation or glory from crowds, his own friends or family. Even when they were willing to glorify Him as a King, He withdrew Himself to the feet of His Father and gave glory to God for all the miracles and healings. Why does Jesus suddenly question His disciples about His own identity? It is indeed for the realization of the disciples themselves. They’ve been with Him now for a long time, seeing Him performing miracles and healings. But what have they learned? They only knew to compare Him to something they’ve seen earlier as that’s their experience. They were limited. However, Peter filled with the Holy Spirit answers His question saying He’s THE SON OF GOD. The promised Messiah has now come. The Holy Spirit inspired Peter
