In the Gospel reading Jesus teaches us how to pray. The pharisee was judging others. It is not our role to judge others. We should stop comparing ourselves with others. Comparison could produce feelings of pride or inferiority. Sometimes a mixture of both. Jesus died for the sinners. He told that it is the sick who need a doctor not the healthy. In the parable we see the Pharisee exalting himself. He was expecting God to bless him. But the tax collector was humble before the Lord. He was telling about his weaknesses and sins and asking for God’s mercy. His attitude was that of a child, returning to the Father after doing something wrong. Jesus says the one who was justified is the tax collector. God is ready to forgive us and restore us, but we need to give him the truth about ourselves. Confession is a humbling experience. Modern society has lost the sense of sin. If we wish to grow in holiness let us be aware of our sins, acknowledge our mistakes and seek forgiveness.
PRAYER: Abba Father, I come before you as a sinner. I want to open my heart to you. Help me to give the truth about myself. Amen.
