Today’s readings are about giving the best we have to the Lord. In the 1st reading, when the Babylonian King captured Israel Daniel & his friends offered to give them the best of service to honor the Almighty God. In the gospel today we are told that our Lord Jesus stood to watch a poor widow offer everything she had to the Lord. We are told how much he was pleased and moved by this offering. How often do we give what is spare to the Lord & what is used & put away to the poor. We seek pleasure & satisfaction by giving a mere few minutes of the day to say a short prayer when the Lord has given the best of 24 hours to us each day thus far. What will you give the Lord? St. Cecelia is the patron saint for Music & it is said that on the night of her wedding she sang to the Lord till her husband agreed to convert to Catholicism and was able to see an angel that was guarding her. She too gave the best of her life to the Lord & suffered martyrdom in exchange for a place in eternity. Let us give our best to him as well.
Prayer: Abba Father, through your great love for me you have given the opportunity for me to live & give the best to you. Amen
