I am reminded of this iconic line from season 1 of the TV series “Chosen”, where the actress who plays Mary Magdalene shares her experience of her encounter with Jesus; “I was one way, and now I am completely different, and the thing that happened in between…was him.” Beautiful words which summarize what it is like for anyone who encounters Jesus. Mary Magdalene was a great saint of God, called as ‘the Apostle to the Apostles’. Like many of us, in her hour of deep turmoil and sadness she did not recognise the Lord who was near her.
But she stayed on instead of giving up, seeking him with all her heart. And the Lord met her face to face, heart to heart, calling her by name and entrusting her with the message of his resurrection. As King Solomon writes can we also truly say of the Lord, “I have found him whom my heart loves?” On this feast day let us bring to mind and lift a prayer of thanksgiving for all the people who have reflected Christ in our own lives and inspired us to journey deeper with him.
Prayer: Abba Father, heal me of my inner wounds and empower me to share the message of the resurrection with those I encounter. Amen.
