We are often presumptuous and we incline to think we are the ones in control of everything; our plans are the ‘and all’ and ‘be all’ of everything. And when they fail to bear fruit, we sulk, question ourselves and blame God. Why couldn’t God help us? When the Lord has been saying, “I know the plans I have for you…plans to give you hope and a future” (Jer 29:11). In today’s first reading, the writer encourages us to follow a better way of living, where one depends and relies upon God. “You have no idea what your life will be like tomorrow.” (vs 14) How true, did we imagine we would live in a world like this? Let us not fool ourselves any longer, but humbly submit to the Lord, asking the Master to reveal His plans for us, as we say; “If the Lord wills we shall live to do this or that.” We do not need to have all the answers, He will work it out for our good, as we love Him. Let us hold on to the promises of the Scriptures which remind us that we are called according to God’s will and we have a heavenly calling to fulfill on earth.
Prayer: Abba Father, I surrender my life today, bringing every thought and action captive unto You. Amen.
