Palm Sunday is a day of both triumph and sorrow. In the first reading, we hear about the suffering servant who endures pain and humiliation for the sake of others. This prophetic image foreshadows Jesus’ passion and death. In the second reading, we see the humility of Christ. This theme of humility and self-sacrifice is echoed in the Psalm, where the psalmist cries out to God in his suffering, yet trusts in God’s deliverance. The Gospel reading provides an account of Jesus’ final hours. Jesus’ words of forgiveness for his executioners and his promise of paradise to the repentant thief offer hope amid the darkness. Today we remember the suffering of Jesus and the love that led him to give his life for us. Let us contemplate how we can follow Jesus’ example of humility, self-sacrifice, and love. It is a time to remember the suffering of Jesus and to appreciate the depth of his love for humanity. It is also a day to look forward to Easter and the promise of eternal life.
PRAYER: Abba Father, help us to understand the depths of your love, revealed in the suffering of your Son. Amen.
