The first reading declares that Jesus is the Son of God and that whoever believes and proclaims it, will be saved. The great chasm that was created by the fall of humanity was mended by Jesus on the Cross. Only the Son of God, who is the Messiah and the Redeemer of the world, was able to do it. “In him we have redemption by his blood, the forgiveness of transgressions, in accord with the riches of his grace” (Eph 1:7). We have to accept the love of Jesus and believe that he is the Son of God. The genealogy of the Lord Jesus is substantiation for us to believe that the prophecies of the first covenant have come to pass. This is the Messianic prophecy which was given to King Ahaz in Isaiah 7:14. The bloodline of the Messiah was from the Davidic bloodline. These prophecies came to pass in the Lord Jesus Christ. “He will be great and will be called Son of the Most High” (Lk 1:32). Let us proclaim the wonderful works of God and become powerful instruments in his hands.
Abba Father, may I believe and proclaim that Jesus is your Son. Amen.
