The Lord Jesus was one of us! To redeem us from death, he became like us. He led a normal life just like us, in obedience to the law of that time. This is the uniqueness of the God we believe in, we have a God who went through pain and suffering just like what we go through, so that he can come to our aid. No matter what we have done, how distant we feel from God, he is near us, he will never forsake us or leave us. Let us come back to him with all our hearts and minds and he will rescue us. Today Jesus calls us to a life of obedience to authorities and to the church, to put aside our own freedom and opinions and to live for others. When we do that he promises wisdom, peace and the favour of God. As we celebrate the feast of the Presentation of the Lord, let us also remember that we are consecrated to the Lord, from our Baptism. Many of us have also been baptized in the Holy Spirit. Let us ask for God’s grace to become effective witnesses of Jesus, who came to be the “Light to the nations”.
Prayer: Abba Father, pour out your grace upon us to live devout, obedient lives as you lived on earth. Come to our aid and give us your wisdom. Amen.
