God had to speak to Jonah twice. How many times should he speak to us to hear him? Jonah tried to run away from God when he heard God for the first time. How many times have we ignored, run away from his calling? The psalmist tells us to repent and cry out to the Lord, it gives us the assurance that our God hears our cry of repentance and will come to our rescue.
Today’s Gospel draws our attention to Mary and Martha. We have heard in many sermons how Martha complained about Mary. A certain preacher said some years ago: “Martha was going about making sandwiches that Jesus never wanted.” Often we occupy ourselves with so many other things and pretend that Jesus would be pleased the way we do them, but what would Jesus say? My daughter/son, I want to spend time with you and that is why I came to you today. Can we hear Him say that or are we still running away from Him like Jonah?
Prayer: Abba Father, give us that grace to hear you and the Holy Spirit to recognize your voice. May we return to you everyday to be with you. Amen.
