Today’s First Reading is a prophecy of the future reign of God, what beautiful imagery is used to communicate the true beauty of God’s kingdom. During this season of Advent, we often only prepare to celebrate Jesus’ birth in Bethlehem. But the Church invites us to prepare for His second coming as well. Therefore it is important that we prepare our hearts for Jesus’ return in glory. As we respond in the Responsorial Psalm: Our God will come to save us.
He will not condemn us. In today’s Gospel proclamation we see a miracle that is performed because of the faith of friends. It is not the paralytic’s faith that moved Jesus, but the faith of his friends, who lowered him into the house that Jesus was in. Are we such friends? Do we help others to receive healing? Or do we keep our spiritual life selfishly? In this season of grace, let us resolve to become true friends to those around us, thereby contributing to make the Kingdom of God a reality in our midst.
Prayer: Abba Father, may I become a true friend to others. Amen.
