God has given us various gifts and talents for our own growth and to benefit society. How do we use these gifts and talents? Society as a whole is crumbling because many have become lazy and selfish. We do not persevere to nurture the God given gifts and talents in our lives and we selfishly hide them from others.
Today’s Gospel is calling us, to prudently use our God given talents. For our spiritual journey we are also blessed with fruits and gifts of the Holy Spirit. Today we remember St. Augustine, Doctor of grace. As a young man he was into loose living – parties, entertainment and worldly ambitions. In a complete turn around in his life, he became a transformed man. He was baptized, became a priest, a bishop, a famous Catholic writer and one of the greatest saints that ever lived. He practiced great poverty, supported the poor, preached and prayed with great fervor right up until his death. Once converted he used his intelligence to convert sinners and glorify God. We are reminded today to do the same.
Prayer: Abba Father, may we glorify your name in all that we do. Amen.
