We are called to perfection. Jesus is calling us to this seemingly impossible task of being perfect just as our Heavenly Father is perfect. In today’s first reading we see the covenant God made with the people of Israel committing himself to them by saying, “you be my people, and I will be your God”. But Jesus revealed to us an even deeper relationship with God, revealing him as our Heavenly Father. Perfection is defined as something that is complete and without blemish. Striving for perfection can be seductive; our ego can drive us towards worldly perfection. But the perfection that is being asked of us by Jesus is not to be prefect in the sense of the world but to be a perfect child of our Heavenly Father. Many people strove for this perfection, and their lives show us the path towards this great calling: living immersed in God’s grace. Let us commit ourselves to do the will of the Father. Over time these moments will lead into a lifetime of being a child of our Heavenly Father.
PRAYER: Abba Father, empower me to do your will. Amen.
