John the Baptist is drawing our attention to an important title given to Jesus: The Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world. A title that bears the essence of Christ’s mission on earth: to love and to redeem through his precious sacrifice. As we take our stand beside St. John the Baptist, pointing to our wonderful Saviour, it is not merely a remembrance of a historical occurrence but a strong reminder to the presence of our Lord in our day-to-day life. However subtle or ordinary this may feel, the Gospel reading is an invitation to fix our gaze on the Lord who is ever present in our midst. We are confident in our identity as children of God and we wait in eager anticipation to see Christ face to face. We are reminded that our waiting is over as soon as we begin to recognize Jesus in the world around us. Can we see the face of the Lord in our brothers and sisters? Are we attuned to the revelation of Christ through the beauty of creation?
PRAYER: Abba Father, open the eyes of our spirits so that we may see Jesus even in the ordinary. Amen.
