In today’s first reading we see the Israelites acknowledging who God is. Despite they being rebellious against him during their journey in the desert towards the promised land, God was faithful to his people. When they realised their sinfulness and repented God lifted them up to be the chosen generation. Their hearts started singing praises to God for his faithfulness and compassion. We see a similar story in the Gospel through the parable of the prodigal son. Sin and temptation can drive away our focus and connection with God. At one point or the other we would have walked in the path of the prodigal son. The moment the son came to his senses, he remembered his father’s love. That love prompted him to run towards the father with a heart full of repentance. If the son can be attracted so much to his earthly father’s love how much we can be drawn to our Heavenly Father for his everlasting Love. When we return to him, he will embrace us with his arms.
PRAYER: Abba Father, let our hearts be cleansed as we return to you in repentance. Amen.
