In today’s first reading, from the book of Genesis, we see the Lord’s advice given to Noah, to increase, multiply and govern the earth. This echoes the command given to Adam and Eve, who went against the Lord’s plan through disobedience and sin. All the creatures of the earth were put under our authority, not for us to exploit, but to guard and lead. However today the earth has been polluted by people and many creatures are unjustly used for human pleasure and consumption. Let us strive towards a sustainable future where we protect the greenery and animals of the earth. Also in the Gospel reading we find that Jesus rebukes Peter, as he tries to discourage Jesus from the way of the Cross that is crucial for our salvation. Without the Cross, we would not have gained redemption. This is the sole purpose of Jesus’ coming. Jesus reminds us how precious the cross and our sufferings are to him and that they unite us to his salvific mission.
PRAYER: Abba Father, may we be loving stewards of your creation. Amen.
